LPKC endorses I-1082 and I-1094 petitions

Friends of liberty,

It’s my honor and pleasure as Chair of the Libertarian Party of King County to report that our Executive Board has voted unanimously to endorse two petition efforts underway: I-1082 (Term Limits on Taxes — the second attempt) and I-1094 (aimed at repealing I-1639).

Our support for these initiatives follows a successful track record this year of helping to get R-88 (against I-1000 and affirmative action) and I-976 ($30 car tabs) passed. We’ve received a hearty thanks from both Washington Asians for Equality (Let People Vote) and Grassroots Against I-1000 for our efforts to get out the vote.

I-1082 (like I-1648 before it) is sponsored by Tim Eyman — who recently announced his intention to run for governor — a force of nature in Washington politics who has been a tireless advocate on behalf of the people against out-of-control taxation. These efforts synchronize well with the message of fiscal responsibility and limited government that our current and former candidates have espoused. Tim was also involved in organizing in support of I-976.

I-1094, sponsored by the Washington 3 Percenter Movement, is an effort to overturn I-1639 on the basis that it violates the Second and Fourth Amendments of the US Constitution, and Article 1, Section 24 of the Washington State Constitution, which states:

"[t]he right of the individual citizen to bear arms in defense of himself, or the state, shall not be impaired, but nothing in this section shall be construed as authorizing individuals or corporations to organize, maintain or employ an armed body of men."

The Libertarian Party of King County will be actively seeking to collect signatures on petitions and to support other organizations who are making an effort to do so, and encourages Libertarians and the liberty-minded to sign these petitions and spread the word about them.

Thank you for your attention and in advance for your support,

In Liberty,

Nathan Deily

Chair, Libertarian Party of King County
